Inauguration Day

Every four years we as Americans have the privilege of witnessing the elected president take their oath of office on a national stage. Whether it is the incumbent taking his oath to start his second term or it is a new president and with him the potential for change and the continued understanding of our democratic processes that we hold dear. This inauguration might be one of the more controversial and rough transitions of power in recent times but this is far from an isolated situation especially compared to many of the presidential transitions of the 19th century. This election cycle has definitely been one for the history books with everything from the demonstrations that took place across this country to COVID-19 a virus that brought the greatest economy in the world to a halt.

This tweet shows the unexpected side of the inauguration where tens of thousands of National Guardsmen where brought in from all over the nation. There was never any real explanation as to why they were brought in or why there was a need for so many. It also shows how they were placed wherever there was room and as the tweet shows COVID was not an immediate concern of theirs.

This inauguration saw more in the way of a festive and a less formal event than past transitions of power with original poems being read on a national stage and top singers performing. This doesn’t seem to fit the atmosphere of the idea of a presidential inauguration nor with how many believed the election would go.

As talked about earlier we saw musical performances other than the national anthem played at such a monumental event.

Another example of how this inauguration is a change of pace from traditional transitions is how focused everyone was on how Senator Sanders was dressed for the occasion.

This inauguration comes at the end of a wild 2020 and offers a chance for change for the coming years. Whether for good or for bad, change is something that is folded into the history of America and this is simply another chapter in America’s book, the 46th chapter if you will.
